Hand-Carved Horse Carousel Figure
Burlington NC hosts one of the about 20 remaining Dentzel carousels. It was built around 1906-1910 and is known as a “menagerie carousel” because of its rich array of animals. This carousel has three rows and a perfectly functioning band organ. Dentzel’s were well known for their incredible realism in their carvings, showing muscles and even veins where appropriate. The eyes are made of glass and the tails of real horsehair.
